CANNED PLAN SERVICE

For many decades, simple farm building plans were provided to the public via the provincial government’s own extension engineering service through an inter-provincial cooperative effort known as the Canada Plan Service.  As farm buildings became larger and more complex and as permit requirements for farm buildings changed, these plans became obsolete and the service was discontinued.

Over the years, Rural Roots Engineering has identified a continuing need for simple, easy-to-use, engineer-stamped plans that are available for quick release.  Inspired by the simple efficiency of the old Canada Plan Service drawings we launched the Rural Roots Canned Plan Service in 2020.  These designs are based on conventional building practises here in Atlantic Canada and are meant to fill a requirement for basic rural or farm structures.

These plans are designed for quick release but are engineered to the required building code and climate of your location upon purchase.  Tweaks or add-ons (such as a site plan) can be made at an additional cost.  If your authority having jurisdiction (county, town or city building official) requires certificates of completion and/or course of construction inspections, we can also cover those services at cost plus travel expenses.

If you are looking for something simple, straight-forward and quick, these are the plans for you!

We have a range of plans for simple structures such as (Previews Coming Soon!):

  • General-purpose storage shed (stick framed or pole style);
  • Gambrel-roof horse stall barns with integrated hay loft (stick framed or pole style);
  • Slab-on-grade foundation plan for homes or sheds;
  • Shallow ICF foundation;
  • Simple pole barn (open or closed sided).
